She was born on April 11, 1959 in Havana, Cuba, but she grew up in emigrated Puerto Rico, where Polo attended the Academia del Perpetuo Socorro. Then, she emigrated to Miami. She discovered her musical talent while studing in secondry school and participated in some musicals with his sister Alina. Despite her family didn’t approved her relationship with a older man, she married when she was 19 years old. Shortly after, Ana Maria became pregnant, but lost the baby. After that they divorced. At a young age, due to disagreements with the newly established communist regime, Ana Maria said goodbye to everything she knew and moved to the US, where she went on to graduate from high school.

After getting a Bachelor’s in political science from Florida International University, Polo found herself accepted to the University of Miami School of Law in ‘87.

She studied hard, passed the Florida Bar, and worked for a law firm in Miami called Emmanuel Perez & Associates, P.A. in Florida.
