Charles Aznavour was born Shahnour Vaghinag Aznavourian on 22 May 1924 and passed away on 1st of October 2018, he was a French-Armenian singer, lyricist, and diplomat. He is one of France’s most popular music composer. He is fondly referred to as France’s “Frank Sinatra”, he is famous for his distinctive tenor voice which rings clearly in its upper notes and profound when hitting low notes. During his over 7 decades of making music, he had recorded more than 1,200 songs mostly in french but majority of them interpreted into up to nine (9) languages. Charles Aznavour sold over 100 million records in his lifetime.
He is know for his “faits de societe” songs which dramatizes social and conscious issues. He has written and recorded songs about everything from weight problems, marriage and divorce, AIDS and even traffic accidents. In 1988, CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe named him the Entertainer of the Century. As a great performer, he performed his records in the presence of dignities such as presidents, popes, royalties and also extended his voice in humanitarian events. Career

Aznavour started performing on stages from a very young age and was already used to performance before he started his musical career. Aznavour’s first written song was entitled J’ai Bu in 1950, prior to that, he was a professional dancer and performed in various nightclubs, in 1944, he and actor Pierre Roche worked together as a team and performed in numerous nightclubs. The kick-start of his musical career can be attributed to his acquaintance with Edith Piaf who hired him as her assistant.
They toured together around the US, he used to open for her down the line wrote lots of songs for her. He recorded over 91 studio albums, recorded and co-wrote musicals, most of his songs were about love, humanity and life. He was a versatile artist, he sang in many languages (French, English, Italian, Spanish, German, Russian, Armenian, Neapolitan and Kabyle).
