On September 10, 1932, Philip Baker Hall was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Alice Birdene and William Alexander Hall, a manufacturing worker from Montgomery, Alabama. He received his education at the University of Toledo and afterward worked as a high school teacher and as a translator for the United States Army in Germany. In New York City, he eventually worked for Off-Broadway and Broadway shows.

Personal Life

Hall had been married twice, his first wife, Mary-Ella Holst, with whom he had two daughters, Patricia and Darcy, and his second wife Holly Wolfle, with whom he also had two daughters, Adella and Anna. On June 12, 2022, Hall died of emphysema at his Glendale, California, home.
